How does Whois-privacy work?

With most domain name registrations, private information (like name, phone number, address and e-mail address) are shown in the publicly available Whois. In order for that information to be kept private, we replace it with our information. The main reason for Whois privacy is to prevent unethical people from harvesting ownerinformation for spamming activities. The actual owner information is however kept in our private database.
